    Great Charcuterie
    By Natalie Taylor

Far from an iodine testing, Salt specializes in charcuterie, wine, and cheese.

The menu is simple. Guests assemble a Tasting Plate from the chalkboard’s selection of 10 cheeses, 10 meats, and 10 condiments.

Selections change constantly but the staff are fantastic, guiding you on what pairs well based on your preferences.

This is a great place for sharing, whether it's on a date or in a group.

You also can't beat the area's gritty exterior in Blood Alley. It's an interesting and local experience.

    Walk the Vancouver Seawall
    By Emma John

It's 22km long, but you don't have to do all of it. We started at the and walked a short section from Cardero Park to Canada Place, and in that time we saw a dozen sea planes take off and land, not to mention a cruise liner head off on its way to the Alaska. It's hard to believe, looking out onto the peaceful still waters and the mountains in the background, that you're still standing in one of Canada's foremost cities. But maybe that's because the walk is so calming and surprisingly underpopulated (there were joggers, but not too many). It's also a great way to learn some local history - plaques along the wall commemorate many important and intriguing moments of Vancouver's past, from the gold rush to unionization.

The permanent Olympic torch is the crowning snapshot to a picture-perfect day!

I arrived back home from travels just in time for the Vancouver Winter Olympics. A good friend of mine and I went into the City for a fabulous day celebrating Canada and goodwill toward everyone! The streets were electric, the skies blue, the people red and white with Canadian pride, and smiles were a permanent fixture on nearly every face.

    Vancouver's Gem of a Bar
    By Natalie Taylor

A clandestine spot to imbibe in Gastown, the Diamond is the speakeasy when you're in Vancouver.

Bar none, one of the best bars I have been to on recommendation from Nathan at Judas Goat. They will make you anything here, like a tasty pisco sour. Plus, they give you these really cute glasses with flowers on them.

We didn’t try the menu, but if it’s anything like the drinks, I’ll be returning for a meal.

If you’re a coffee nerd, Revolver is the place to go for personal-size, pour-over coffees brewed from their unique lines of beans. Hang out for a while and you’ll run into everyone who lives at this end of Gastown. (604) 558-4444. As told to Rhonda May. Photo by Grant Harder. This appeared in the September, 2012 issue. Get the Special!

Like the name says: just braised or slow-roasted meats, served on ciabatta buns. They are known for their hand-carved porchetta, but I order the daily special—that is, if I can get there before 2 p.m. The restaurant is first come, first served, so be prepared to line up. Where the Locals Shop in Vancouver

    Taco(fino) Time
    By Round The World Arnette

Vancouver isn't really known for its Mexican food, but then came the Tacofino truck. If you've been through the heart of the city, you may have seen the brightly-colored truck and the long line surrounding it. Luckily, they now have a brick-and-mortar location: the Tacofino Commissary. The outstanding quality of the food is what really draws the crowd. Try the Baja-style taco, a mint-lime slushy, and a "diablo" cookie. Having resided in San Diego, I am picky about Mexican food, but Tacofino definitely delivers.

    Best Macarons in Vancouver
    By Lori-Lee Emshey

After indulging in macrons from Bisou Ciao in New York, we were on a mission to find their equal in Vancouver. I discovered Soirette down near the cruise ship dock. They have amazing flavors including Caramel Fleur de Sel (my favorite), Chocolat Chocolat, Lavender, Matcha, and Cappuccino. While their selection of artisanal teas are the perfect complement. Grab a gift box and enjoy them down by the water overlooking the bay.

For certain holidays, like Mother's Day and Valentines Day, Soirette opens a central pop-up shop in Holt Renfrew.

    The Unseen Stanley Park
    By Flash Parker

Bright and early on a crisp, cool morning, there's a good chance you'll have Vancouver's remarkable Stanley Park all to yourself (save for those outrageously dedicated runners who get up at the crack of dawn).

A wander around Brockton Point rewards the visitor with lovely views of the North Shore and BC's stunning coastal mountains. The tide has a habit of revealing a few surprises as well. Pack your camera, your tripod, and your favorite "toque" (Canada speak for a snug, brimless hat), and explore one of Canada's most beautiful parks.

Steamworks has been brewing unique craft beer in historic Gastown since 1995, utilizing the building's rare steam delivery system that to this day is the only one of its kind in Canada.

The Steamworks craft list is tremendous. You'll find seasonal favorites alongside core brands like the Pale Ale and the Pilsner, which have taken home numerous British Columbia craft beer awards.

Sweet Evenings at the Bitter Tasting Room
    By Flash Parker

Bitter Tasting Room is a thrilling little gastro pub located in East Van that features a fantastic draft list, a well-curated craft bottle selection, and an accompanying menu with a handful of clever, shareable plates that demand a return visit (or five).

The scotch eggs pair particularly well with a few pints from the stout lineup, while the handmade pretzels and saloon nuts put a nice spin on classic pub grub.

If you're not in the mood for a pint, check out the extensive cocktail list; the Perfect Stormy and the Shandy should prime you for a Vancouver Vice, an ingenious gin cocktail spiked with Maisel’s Weisse beer.
