    Alpine Brunch
    By Alexa Harder

Alpine Cafe is a hidden brunch spot beloved by Whistler locals. The charming space is warm, inviting, and the food is simple, but wonderful. The café’s menu features the usual brunch items like eggs benedict and French toast, but the care and ingredients meals are prepared with is obvious. Alpine’s house-made thick-cut toast is especially delicious and pairs nicely with a warm cup of coffee or a latte.

Splitz Grill has been home to the best burger in Whistler since 1997. Each burger is made fresh to order and to your liking. You can try the eternally delicious Classic Splitz Burger or create your own customized burger, for which there are endless combinations of locally sourced meats, curious toppings and house-made sauces. One word of advice for your burger adventure: don’t forget the special Splitz sauce and definitely splurge on the onion rings.

    Best Latte in Whistler
    By Alexa Harder

Mount Currie Coffee Company is my preferred place to grab a coffee and pastry on morning walks through the Village. They brew Intelligentsia coffee and make awesome lattes as well as other espresso drinks. One of the best parts of the coffee shop is the quiet location; it’s tucked away from the heart of the village, which makes it less busy than other more centrally located coffee shops. All in all, Mount Currie Coffee Company is the coffee shop to visit if you’re yearning for a quick and fresh lunch or quiet place to have a coffee and read the morning paper.

People Watching on the Patio at Araxi
    By Alexa Harder

Araxi is an internationally known farm-to-table restaurant based in the heart of Whistler Village. The food is fantastic and the menu changes seasonally. The inner dining space is casual, yet refined, making it a great place for a date night. When the weather heats up, the restaurant’s patio is the quintessential spot to people watch while grabbing a late lunch and a cocktail.

If you're in Whistler over the summer months, Araxi hosts a long table dinner series at various outdoor locations around town. The event invites visitors to dine al fresco amongst the nature of Whistler; you can quite literally eat in the environment where the food on your plate has been foraged.

    Get Out on the Water
    By Alexa Harder

Alta Lake, on the west side of Whistler, has two parks where you can cool down by getting out on the water in a kayak or canoe for the day. Wayside Park rents kayaks, whereas Lakeside offers canoes. Both have picnic tables, barbecues and beaches; perfect for a day out in the sun.

If you prefer a more intense and guided water experience, Whistler Eco Tours offers paddle tours (paddle-board, kayak, and canoe) on both Alta and Green Lake. The staff is experienced and the company offers a variety of tours to choose from.

    Run with the Locals
    By Alexa Harder

The 40km Valley Trail connects several neighborhoods in Whistler and is the optimal circuit for anyone wanting to get in their daily run while on vacation or traveling. My preferred route starts at the entrance of the Valley Trail beside Whistler Golf Course and follows around the perimeter of the course. This scenic route is approximately 5km long, runnable almost year round, and varies between hills and flat planes that provide stunning views of the surrounding mountains as well as the golf course. After completing the circuit you can continue on through the Village and grab a coffee and breakfast to refuel for the remainder of the day.

    Tackle Your Fear of Heights
    By Round The World Arnette

I'm not very good with heights. I wouldn't say I am deathly afraid but I am definitely not very comfortable high up in the air. Somehow I found myself signed up for a zipline trek with Superfly Ziplines in Whistler.

I got picked up on a big bus and saw that there were some older ladies on the bus. My bus driver told me the oldest zipper was 82 years old. Slowly I was feeling like a wuss. But when I got there my guides for the morning made me feel super comfortable and they always reminded us we have the option to opt out at any time. What I loved about Superfly was being seated rather than being harnessed by the chest (what I saw in videos and photos) and that they warmed us up with small ziplines before moving onto their bigger ones, which made me more comfortable. You are also heavily harnessed and able to let go of the handle bar to shoot video and photos.

Superfly Ziplines have two zip lines, which are the longest and highest lines in Canada. Thanks to them I may slightly be addicted to ziplining now!

For more of my Whistler trip, including a video of my zip lining experience, visit my blog here.

    Preserving Native Traditions
    By Flash Parker

The Lil'wat Cultural Centre is a tremendous introduction to the world of native Canadian art, as well as the culture of the Squamish and Lil'wat Nation. The SLCC is an effort to preserve and present the traditions and artifacts, and was born out of a historic protocol signed in 2001.

The gallery showcases art from Squamish Lil’wat, and other Canadian artists, like master carver Charles Joseph, otherwise known as Boone.

    The Thrill of Backcountry Skiing
    By Flash Parker

The Blackcomb Snowmobile snowcat puts the backcountry at your fingertips, all from the cozy confines of Whistler Village. The company's 4,000-acre Brandywine ski area is a short drive from the village but a world away from the more populated mountains; the snowcat only has room for a group of 12 and two guides, which means you and your crew can feel like you have the mountain to yourself.

The full-day program begins at 8:00am and costs $499 per person.
