Authentic Chinese Food In Dallas Area
    By Jamie Willis

To me it's always a good sign of authenticity when you see those making the food speaking the language of the foods origin. You'll find that here. (...and really in any other place in that strip.) The green onion pancakes, the shrimp/pork steamed dumplings, the green beans with pork. I could go on....yum!

The Gypsy Wagon is equal parts clothing store, gift shop and home accessories store. The Gypsy Wagon has one of the best greeting card selections in Dallas, with lots of cards boasting witty and snarky sayings to give your friends and family come next holiday. I also love the store’s selection of unique handmade jewelry, holiday décor, and cowboy boots.

    Deep Ellum
    By Colin Roohan

The area known as Deep Ellum, near downtown Dallas, is slowly turning back into one of Dallas' best places to watch live music, and, in addition to listening to tunes, there is plenty of good shopping and eating to be had as well.

I met Ryan, the gentleman pictured above, outside of Lula B's (a boutique, second-hand store), who had just done a bit of shopping. He told me it is tough to take in all that Deep Ellum has to offer in just a day, so plan to make this area a repeat visit. From downtown you can reach Deep Ellum using the DART light rail system.

In terms of eats, I highly recommend Serious Pizza which serves hand tossed pizza along with locally crafted beer (perfect combo) and Lemongrass, an Asian fusion eatery where all dishes are sure to please.

Sip on Southern Hospitality at Sissy's
    By Lindsey Chandler

We have entered the age of the craft cocktail, and Sissy’s Southern Kitchen and Bar delivers in this category big time. Beautiful containers of Belvedere punch sit behind the bar while southern attire clad bartenders chisel away at ice for their menu of custom cocktails. When eating dinner at Sissy’s, I actually prefer to dine at the bar so I can see all of the creative concoctions being made right in front of me. Don’t know which cocktail to order? Try the Tea Thyme, which is made from Belvedere Lemon Tea Vodka, thyme, lemon and honey.

Check in at the Pecan Lodge
    By Flash Parker

The Pecan Lodge has a reputation for being one of the best barbecue joints in Dallas, and the line at the Farmers Market to prove it.

I didn't have time to wait in line, but ran into a few friendly folk that willingly shared their take with me. I'm not sure that I'd be so generous in their position; the food at this joint is outrageously delicious. Get in line early, and come hungry. I suggest you try the Hot Mess, then find someplace to have a nap.

Celebrating a special occasion during your time in Dallas? Look no further than Fearing’s. Located inside of the Ritz Carlton Dallas, Fearing’s represents everything that Dallas dining is all about: locally influenced food, refined and friendly service and décor that proclaims you are in Texas the moment you walk in to the Rattlesnake Bar. One of the nicest parts about your visit is that Dean Fearing almost always makes it to say hi to every diner in the restaurant each night.

A Bit of Green in the Concrete Jungle
    By Lindsey Chandler

No trip to Dallas would be complete without a walk or run down the Katy Trail. Inside the concrete jungle of Dallas sits the Katy Trail, a bamboo-lined pedestrian walkway that spans three and a half miles from the American Airlines Center to the SMU campus. The Katy Trail is also the perfect place for people watching in Dallas. You will see people out and about of all ages and walks of life running, walking, biking, and rollerblading to start or finish out their day.

Throughout the museum, you will see exhibits representing every corner of the globe, including African Art, European Painting and Sculpture and Contemporary Art. The DMA also has a lovely café near the north entrance to the museum that provides a nice place to take a break in between exhibits. General Admission to the museum is free.

    Dallas Designer
    By Jessica S.

Shoppers, beware: Once you enter Factory Girl, a high-end boutique in Dallas, you'll find it difficult to leave. On the racks, search for vintage designer pieces from as early as the 1960s (Dior, Gaultier, and Lanvin are just a few of the names you may recognize) next to brand-new clothing from emerging designers. Even the walls are curated—the shop is adorned with art and photography by both local and global artists.

    Organic Dallas
    By Jessica S.

There's no shortage of steakhouses in Dallas. Place at Perry's distinguishes itself thanks to its fierce focus on local, sustainable, and organic produce. On Perry's plates, no meat comes from animals given antibiotics or growth hormones; the seafood hails from only sustainably-harvested fish species. Taste the difference in pan-roasted tilapia, Niman Ranch pork chops, and a locally-grown mozzarella caprese salad.

    Where Creatives Take Their Coffee
    By Jessica S.

The artisanal, high-quality coffee beans here attract Dallas' creative class. The light café fare, interesting art, and live music (every other Thursday) is what keeps them there. Visit this coffee shop in Dallas' Deep Ellum neighborhood to tap into the creative spirit of hip locals, who come here to work on novels, strategize new business ventures, or just engage in friendly conversation with fellow artists, scholars, and thinkers.
